Richard has been enamored by technology ever since he was 5 years old and wanted to be a garbage truck driver because “they get to drive the big truck and smash things.” Some would call him a geek, and they would be correct. Fortunately, he graduated from that dream and got involved in computers, purchasing his first system with his own paper route money. Since that first Commodore VIC-20, he has broadened his horizons and is experienced almost every type of computer system imaginable - from the smaller systems like the Amiga, Be, and MS-DOS systems to large Unix systems consisting of multiple AIX & HP-UX machines.
His love of Linux and Open Source Software in general began in the early ‘90s while attending the Speed School of engineering at the University of Louisville. Spending 2 days downloading Slackware floppy disks is what he did for fun back then. After college, he hit the business market and hopped from place to place working in computer departments at various companies. Currently, he enjoys running his own company (KangarooBox) and supporting other developers around the world.
One thing he noticed as he moved around was that the bigger the company the less likely it is to embrace risk and try new things. This was the revelation that lead to the founding of KangarooBox. Bringing Open Source Software to the business world and opening their eyes to quality computer programming is his goal.
